Pastor Victor Kanyari has opened up about a deeply emotional moment, after his church workers came together to console him with a generous cash gift in the wake of the tragic passing of his ex-wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo.
Nearly three days after Bayo’s burial, Kanyari was filmed unsealing a grey envelope filled with crisp 1,000-shilling notes. In the video, shared on TikTok, he asked everyone present at his home to give a round of applause for his staff. He stressed that the gift was given voluntarily — he had neither asked for help nor expected such a gesture.
“I can’t believe you are gifting me money, yet I have not even asked you for it,” he said, his voice laden with emotion.
The surprise from his team came in the shadow of profound grief: Betty Bayo passed away on November 10, 2025, after suffering from acute myeloid leukemia. Just a day after her death, Kanyari was seen overcome with emotion as he viewed her body at Kenyatta National Hospital.
In a public tribute, he confessed the depth of his loss, saying:
“It hurts in ways I can’t explain. You left before I could say everything I needed to … I still see you in every laugh our children give, in every little habit that reminds me of you … We had our moments … but through it all, you were family. I’ll carry your memory, your love, and your spirit forever.”
The cash gift from his workers was not just a financial offering — it was a powerful symbol of solidarity and support. Kanyari did not shy away from expressing his gratitude, calling the gesture both humbling and meaningful.
He also addressed critics on social media who questioned his public grieving, clarifying in a video that mourning is a deeply personal process. Despite their past, Kanyari spoke fondly of Bayo, saying he had “never met a woman like her” and emphasizing how much she meant to him.
