Pastor Kanyari Mourns Betty Bayo, Vows to Protect His Children

Gospel preacher Victor Kanyari has publicly mourned the loss of his former partner, gospel artist Betty Bayo (real name Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua), while affirming his intention to continue being present for their children.

Bayo passed away on 10 November 2025 at Kenyatta National Hospital, after being treated for advanced-stage leukemia.  Kanyari released a heartfelt statement, saying:

It hurts in ways I can’t explain. You left before I could say everything I needed to. I still see you in every laugh our children give, in every little habit that reminds me of you. … I’ll carry your memory, your love, and your spirit forever. Rest easy, you’ll always be missed.”

He described Bayo as “family” despite their separation and noted the importance of their shared role as parents to their two children.

Following her death, concerns arose publicly about custody and care of the children. Kanyari reacted strongly to those “dividing up” his children, insisting that he remains fully responsible for them and that others should not claim custody while he is alive and available.

Bayo’s legacy in the Kenyan gospel music scene is well-noted: her breakthrough song “Eleventh Hour” resonated widely and her ministry is remembered for its themes of hope and resilience.

As the gospel community and wider public mourn her passing, attention is also turning to how her children will be supported through this transition. Photos of her daughter, Sky, visibly distraught outside Kenyatta National Hospital have drawn sympathy and reflections on the challenges faced by children in such moments.
